could one work to windward in a gale or sail on when mid atlantic breakers flatten her? what about an automatic system for capsize recovery? could a multihull heave to in heavy weather and work slowly to windward like a contessa? probably not, but perhaps it could be as seaworthy as the offshore racing fleet. read more meeting reports news ayrs nwuk local group – winter meeting – 10th december 2016 30th january 2017 22nd december 2017 webadmin 0 comments as is now the custom at our winter meeting, members arrived just after noon for a 12.30 pm start. there were seven members and four of their wives present. three apologies from absence were received from roy anderson, steve mckenna and colin weir. after a short introduction, a buffet lunch was served which was enjoyed by everyone (thanks col). amply fed and watered, the ladies retired to the conservatory leaving the gents in the lounge to have their ‘official’ meeting. read more news catalyst 51 now available for paid-up members 24th january 2017 webadmin 0 comments catalyst 51 is now available through the discussion forum. you will first need to register on the forum if you read more members projects split_junk_rig the split junk rig 1st january 2017 22nd december 2017 webadmin 0 comments back in 2002, ayrs member slieve macgalliard was looking for a way to improve the one weak point of the modern western junk rig – the windward performance. his conclusion was that camber is needed right to the luff of the sail, a feature that is difficult to achieve with the standard rig, which is normally pulled aft. one possible idea was to build a cambered rig with a lot of sail balance forward of the mast and split the sail in way of the mast so that the camber would be the same on both tacks and not distorted by the mast. read more news agm 2017 – agenda and draft previous minutes now published. see event notice 14th december 2016 24th january 2017 webadmin 0 comments read more publications ayrs announces catalyst no 49 28th september 2015 27th november 2017 webadmin ayrs announces catalyst no 49 … … is now available, and can be downloaded from here. online members will shortly read more forum – latest posts technical papers for review and comment • re: kasala latest news: crutches’ corner 19th june 2018 john perry technical papers for review and comment • re: kasala latest news: crutches’ corner 2nd june 2018 alexq23 technical papers for review and comment • re: kasala latest news: crutches’ corner 31st may 2018 john perry technical papers for review and comment • re: kasala latest news: crutches’ corner 30th may 2018 john perry technical papers for review and comment • re: kasala latest news: crutches’ corner 29th may 2018 alexq23 photo gallery amateur yacht reseach society secretary and administration bcm ayrs london wc1n 3xx england email: [email protected] www.ayrs.org the amateur yacht research society is a uk educational charity no 234081, company no 785326; registered office: 9 lynton road, thorpe bay, essex ss1 3be.
